The C-Care* group’s medical laboratory has just invested in cutting-edge equipment designed to revolutionise healthcare. Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (MALDI) enables bacteria to be identified almost instantaneously. Whereas traditional methods used to take more than 48 hours, microorganisms can now be identified in just 30 minutes.
C-Lab is the first medical laboratory in the private sector to be equipped with this technology.
This equipment aims to reform the way bacteria are identified in the microbiology department. Not only will it enable patients to start treatment more quickly, it will also reduce the risk of drug resistance or failure of prescribed treatments. The MALDI, with its superior technology, also has the ability to indicate whether bacteria identified in blood cultures, urine samples and wound swabs have enzymatic activities against certain antibiotics.
*C-Lab, a laboratory belonging to the C-Care Group (CIEL Group), offers a full range of quality laboratory services. The two main laboratories located at C-Care Darné and C-Care Wellkin are CHKS and ISO accredited (ISO 15189:2012) and are operational 24/7 to provide inpatient and emergency laboratory testing. In addition to the main laboratories, C-Lab also has 24 sampling centres across the island.
