10,000 visitors turned out over the weekend of 3 and 4 August to discover the activities on offer at the Geekali festival at NORDEV. It was also an opportunity for Orange Réunion, a long-standing partner since 2017, to highlight its #ForGoodConnections initiative. A programme to promote digital inclusion with free workshops thanks to the Orange Digital Center scheme and awareness-raising initiatives to protect against cyber risks. Review of the annual event.

This 6th edition of the festival featured more than 50 stands and activities, and was enhanced by an exceptional event with the Orange K-Pop Idols show, featuring South Korean singer Kisu and Malaysian DJ Nitro.
This year Orange had a stand to raise public awareness of the dangers of digital technology: cyber harassment, online hate and hyper-connection. The initiative is now known as ‘For Good Connections’. 280 people took part in the workshops and quizzes led by the Orange Digital Centre. The collaboration between Orange and the Rotary Club D9220 of Saint-Denis was a great success. Through them, the youth section of the Saint-Denis Rotaract and young footballers from La Redoute were able to get involved and run Orange Digital Centre workshops.

A Cyber Security Code

The ‘Cyber Security Code’ game was an opportunity to talk to a wide audience, not only about techniques for protecting against cyber-maliciousness, but also about good practice and tips to adopt on a daily basis.
Kevin, a technician at Orange who installed the fibre optic cable for the festival, is also an ‘ambassador’ for the Orange Digital Centre programme: ‘During the workshops, we discuss things like passwords and what to do if you find a USB key… and it’s rewarding to see that the young people really listen to our advice.
