The WeLight Tour program WeLight Madagascar, a specialist in solar energy, started its off-grid solar electrification operations (offr-grid) in 2018 in four rural areas of the Diana region (north). In 2019, the company supplied 23 villages covering more than 10,000 people, supported by a financing agreement signed with the Norwegian fund Norfund targeting 100 villages in the coming years.
In this momentum, the WeLight Tour was launched in December 2020 to raise awareness of this solar electrification process in isolated areas, starting with 7 villages in Ilaka-Est: Andevoranto, Anjahambe, Vohilengo, Ampasimbe, Ampasina and Mahambo . WeLight Madagascar is a company created as a joint venture between Electricité de Madagascar (EDM, a subsidiary of the Axian group) and the French company Sagemcom E&T.
