As we announced in our columns last August (see JDA 2 magazine), the Indian Ocean Shipyard (CNOI) is acquiring a 1,500-ton strap elevator. This is a world first and will enable the only shipyard in the region that complies fully with European standards to capture new markets for careening and shipbuilding.
The machine delivered by the Italians of CIMOLAI will be operational this November. The other important news at CNOI concerned the delivery of a large 40-meter amphidrome destined for the French department of Guyana. This project was completed on schedule but is still waiting for a maritime opening to be delivered: “with the exorbitant cost of maritime freight, we have to wait for a solution to transport this barge by cargo…” said Franck Piriou, CEO of CNOI. Other news in half-tone: the incomprehensible closure of the Saint Brandon archipelago by the Mauritian authorities. This decision was taken without any consultation with the professionals of the sector, such as the CNOI, which could have sent about 15 people there for unforgettable stays. The ship, also appreciated by scientists who regularly organize Antarctic expeditions on board, was recently renovated and equipped with a new motorization with 2 Beaudoin engines developing a total of 800 horsepower.
