Iconoi.app, finally a historical photo library for the region

This project led by the historic Icon Library of the Indian Ocean, supported by the Indian Ocean Commission (COI) and co-financed by the European Union FEDER- INTERREG V 0 1) and by the French state, aims to share on a common platform images of partners from the southwest of the Indian Ocean. The common goal is to collect, digitize, describe the funds and collections of their country.  After two years dedicated to the digitization and description of images, it is now time to enhance the value of shared images through digital tools. In particular via the Iconoi.app application which allows you to discover a selection of 340 historical images and their associated entries from the seven partner countries and territories of the project. For David Gagneur, project director within the Department of Reunion: “In 2011, the Department of Reunion decided to create, through a Historical Icon Library of the Indian Ocean (IHOI), a solution dissemination of iconographic resources conserved in the oldest cultural institutions for which it is responsible. By Iconothèque, the collectivity in the broad sense means a bank or database of images regardless of the medium (engravings, paintings, photographs, etc.) and puts these image sources online. Since 2017, the IHOI has been supporting the Networking of Iconographic Heritage of the Indian Ocean which aims to share on a common platform images of partners from the southwest of the Indian Ocean driven by the common objective of collecting , digitize, describe the funds and collections of their country. ”

An interactive and fun application The original technological solution developed by the DOMOON agency takes the form of an embedded, intuitive, immersive and fun mobile application (smartphones and tablets) Once the ICONOI application has been downloaded, select your language (French-English-Portuguese) and your country (Reunion, Mozambique, Comoros, Seychelles, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte). Explore the image gallery with Discover mode, browsing a selection of your country, country or territory of your choice, or browsing the collection at random. The Scanner mode allows for its part, from posters displayed in partner institutions, downloaded and / or printed at home, to play in augmented reality. An image snippet appears in the cube and must be found.
