Photo J.RombiThe French startup Mascara Renewable Water specializes in water desalination and the supply of drinking water by solar energy. Thanks to its patent, the solution begins to spread across the world to Africa and arrives in Madagascar through a partnership with Mada Green Power.
Created in 2014 by Marc Vergnet, specialist in rural water engineering, and Maxime Haudebourg, professor of electrical engineering and automation, Mascara Renewable Water has developed its solar water desalination solution, following the Cop25 principle on decarbonization water desalination. Since then, Mascara has delivered desalination units to Oman, Indonesia and several African countries.
Its Osmosun system, already tested elsewhere, will be installed in Madagascar with the local company Mada Green Power, specializing in photovoltaics. On the islands, the solution provided by Mascara is highly sought after and Madagascar could benefit from it in several dry regions.
Mascara Renewable Water works with its sister company Vergnet Hydro, which is very active in Africa, for the installation and distribution of drinking water networks. The startup has already raised 2.2 million euros in 2019 for its deployment with the Famae Impact fund, Sofimac, Go Capital and Gaia Impact Fund.
