The vice-ministry for new towns and housing has identified a new site for the new town project called Tanamasoandro, initially planned in Ambohitrimanjaka (north of Antananarivo). This is the Tsimahabeomby area (municipality of Imerintsiatosika), located 26 km west of the capital on the site of the former NASA base, inactive since July 1975. At a cost estimated in October 2019 at around 540 MEUR by the Presidency of the Republic, the Tanamasoandro project provides for the transfer of ministries and the construction of administrative offices, investment zones, health centers, leisure centers and educational establishments on an area of 1000 ha
